About us
Welcome to Huckleberry Early Learning Academy! Huckleberry is a small, in-home Early Learning program located in South Prince George, VA. As a mother and preschool teacher of over 10 years, I wanted to develop a program that offers a peaceful, comfortable environment that empowers children. My goal is to create an atmosphere that is inspired by both Reggio Emilia and The Montessori Method to provoke creativity and encourage independence.
Each week, the environment will be prepared to reflect the theme. The children will be encouraged to explore freely, allowing them to choose their activities and the duration in which they spend their time with that particular activity. We aim to offer open-ended materials and learning provocations to inspire children to think outside the box, be creative, use their imagination, and develop self-help/critical thinking skills.
While academics and school preparation play a big part in our program, Huckleberry’s greatest mission is to nurture independent, confident, driven, self-sufficient, and happy children by allowing them to take healthy risks within safe boundaries, and encouraging them to think freely. Studies show that children who are encouraged to persevere and grow to be more confident and optimistic, and as a result -more successful later in life. In a time where the mental health of our children is at risk, its important that we work together to create a better future for our youth.
At Huckleberry, we will explore topics that children will use throughout life. We will discuss survival skills, social skills, life-skills, explore nature & science, create art, and practice early reading and math. We believe that adverse behaviors are teaching opportunities, and we apply logical consequences as an alternative to “time-outs” and harsh discipline.
In order to attend Huckleberry Early Learning Academy, your child must be 2 years-5 years old. Huckleberry is not a Kindergarten replacement program. If your child is five years old while attending the program, they still must attend kindergarten the following year. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to contact us!
Our mission is to nurture confidence and independence in your little ones by preparing an environment that encourages skill building, imagination, and creativity.
“The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”
—Maria Montessori
